2022 Sigurd Reserve Syrah
2022 Sigurd Reserve Syrah
From an organically farmed single block of almost century-old vines in Light Pass comes a Syrah with definition and poise. Concentrated dark fruits sit at its core, supported by subtle spice and a firm, balanced line shaped in new and used French hogsheads for up to 24 months. It gathers complexity as it opens, revealing structure, energy and presence. A wine built with care, built to age, and built to speak honestly of where it comes from.
A culmination of years working with this organic single vineyard has led to the release of this Reserve Syrah.
The 2022 season was slightly warmer, balanced by cool nights, creating ideal conditions for even ripening and flavour development. The result is a wine of concentration, depth and composure.
The fruit was fermented and matured for 22 months in a mix of new French oak barrique and three-year-old French hogsheads, before being racked off lees and rested in tank for a further three months prior to hand bottling.
The wine shows concentrated dark fruits with depth and layered savoury complexity, supported by a fine structure that will carry it forward.
Drink now, or hide it deep in the cellar for your child's 21st birthday (we will be).

LABEL DESIGN:
The new Sigurd labels lean further into our Nordic roots - detailed, expressive, and a little more considered.
Textured stock, illuminated lettering and a gold foiled frame draw from Scandinavian design, centred around a coat of arms that anchors the label. With the addition of a neck label and layered shadow, it brings a sense of depth and permanence.
It’s a move towards something more collectible, but still grounded in the same idea - wines with story, place and identity.
Symbolism: The Sigurd Coat of Arms
The Bear
A symbol of strength and protection, the bear has long been part of Nordic folklore - tied to the forest and seen as a guardian. It represents resilience, family, and the instinct to protect and carry something forward.
The Stag
The stag speaks to movement and awareness - travelling through changing landscapes with intent. In Nordic tradition, it’s a symbol of renewal and endurance, with antlers that return each year. For Sigurd, it reflects the journey - adapting, learning, and building something over time.
This is a savoury affair, a wine of fragrance and ferrous/earthy detail. There are always old-world echoes to the Sigurd wines, but there’s also such a sense of individuality and locality of place. Tightly wound red and black fruits, dark spices deeply enmeshed, tobacco leaf, black olive, old leather, fennel seed, with a sanguine, bit-lip mineral quality. This is built on such keenly extracted and matured tannins, the acidity resolved and energising, the length exceptional.
